Personal note from myself: Default Pico TTS is bearable, but for a much better listening experience, try Loquendo TTS Susan v2.5 at Slow or Normal speed. Any of the SVOX US English TTS Voices are also suitable. It's especially vital if you subscribe to Engadget or any world news ("Very son four grams" in Pico for "Verizon 4G" or "siren protesters" for "Syrian protesters" makes for a rather irritating listening experience).
